COP26 | HM Government

Brief

Design and develop a best in class web experience that promotes COP26 to the world and positions the UK as a global leader in climate action. Beyond this, the UK Year of Climate Action microsite will let the public, businesses and civil society understand how they can get involved in climate change activities happening across the UK.

my role + The Team

In turnaround of 4 weeks I worked with a Senior UX designer, UI designer, an external developer and branding agency, The Mill. I scoped the components and created wireframes for the components.

A card sorting exercise was conducted with Engine and the stakeholders from the client-side. For the launch of the site some pages went live, the rest were to be created in the run-up to the event in November 2020.

component wireframes

I was responsible for identifying the components that would be required on the pages for launch and the pages that would go through the year in the run up to the conference. Below is an example of the variations of components, which was reviewed by the stakeholders (gov.uk and the dev agency).

DESIGN EXPLORATION

IMAGES

Image treatment was explored to understand the relationship between website images and the main globe, colour palette and other hero images.

OPTION 1

The user arrives on the homepage and can see the globe slowly rotating. The headline slowly transitions through the key messages. At any point the user can scroll down to read the rest of the first page content.

OPTION 2

The rotating globe appears at the bottom of the page with the intro message sitting above. As the user scrolls down the globe comes fully into view and the headline transitions into the next message. Further scrolling reveals the remaining messages until the whole screen moves up to bring the rest of the homepage content into view.

Final results

The site for COP26 went live in February 2020. This was a fast pace project working with external branding agency, The Mill and clients from .GOV this was a project that had to go live within less than a month of being briefed. https://www.ukcop26.org/
